City Mechanical is not a fleet of trucks with a logo. It is a living, breathing organism that has served and contributed to the Greater Bay Area and San Francisco since 1989. City Mechanical is the brainstorm of Russell L. Will Jr., president, who in the 1980s was a plumbing apprentice. His teacher was journeyman Ronald A. Tinkey, who now serves as this firm’s secretary/ treasurer. Russ was impressed with his mentor’s vast knowledge and compassionate way of guiding young men and women. He made Ron an offer: Let’s start a “little” service company. Today all City Mechanical technicians are union trained. Training remains the hallmark of this growing company’s vision. Not just for employees, but for clients as well. Delivering the highest level of specialized HVAC services means helping building managers – male and female – understand complex procedures and needs.
"When people see the City Mechanical trucks, we don’t want them to see us just as the repair guy. We want them to say, there’s the solution to the problem."-- Ronald A. Tinkey

City Mechanical’s first client was the Pacific Stock Exchange. Will and Tinkey won the contract after promising the property manager that she would receive first-class service and be given the tools she needed to better manage her building. Nearly 20 years later, they make the same promise to every new client.
Today City Mechanical’s 30-plus staff provides 24-hour emergency services and a peerless Diamond maintenance program. The growing client roster includes the City of San Francisco, financial institutions, restaurants, commercial food distributors as well as arts organizations.
City Mechanical has always been Green. All staff members are trained to optimize the best available equipment and educate building managers about maintenance procedures. Homeland Security, LEEDS and EPA guidelines are common practice.
Commitment to leadership in the community has led Will and Tinkey to donate time, money and other resources to improve the lives of young men and women throughout San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area.
